Anna Maria Island also called Anna Maria Key. Anna Maria Island is seven miles and runs north to south on the Gulf of Mexico. A Barrier Island located North West of Sarasota and West of Bradenton. It is surrounded by three bodies of water Gulf of Mexico, Tampa Bay, and Sarasota Bay. Gulf Drive runs the entire length south to North.
Anna Maria Island has a free trolley-style bus that runs the entire length of Gulf Drive. Because of all the vacation rentals and places to stay is a very popular destination for weddings and is known as the “wedding capital of Florida”.
Some parts of the island are protected to preserve the Sea turtles which nest on the island from May to October. The island is a bird sanctuary with many pelicans, cranes, herons, wild parrots, sand pipers, hawks, vultures, seagulls, and crows inhabit the island.
